Aeroplan car rental: does the person who books the car have to be the driver?

Question from Reader – Answer in Comments

When you reserve a rental car through aeroplan, can you designate someone else as the primary driver? Also, does the aeroplan member have to be present at the rental counter? In other words, can someone not travelling with me book my rental car?

I assume you are asking if someone can use their Aeroplan miles to book a car for you? Someone else can book a car for you but if you are using their member discount their can be a risk involved. You may be able to get a better deal as Aeroplan seem to only book through Avis and they are one of the more expensive agencies.

So, yes they can book for you but the rental agency may not honor the booking or rate.
